|EV Charging Station Upgrade||Starting August 24th, Charge Point will be working in collaboration with the City of Arcata to upgrade the Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at the 8th and F Street parking lot to include four EV charging stations.
Construction for this project will being the week of August 24th and continue for the following month. This work will require closure of the northernmost row of parking spaces. The work will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. there may be occasional work on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
On the days of scheduled work, members of the community are encouraged to follow all directions and traffic control directions related to the project.

|Forest Timber Harvest||
The City has contracted with Licensed Timber Operator Diamond R. Ranch for this project, and for safety purposes, all Community Forest visitors are urged to comply with all trail closures and detour signs while the harvest is active. Posted trail and road closures will be effective from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and recreational users must take alternate routes.
Anticipated trail closures will include trail numbers 9, 3 and a short section of trail 1. The Fickle Hill Road trailhead and the parking area on Fickle Hill Road will also be periodically closed to public access and vehicle parking. When the Fickle Hill parking area is closed, forest visitors are encouraged to access the forest from other entry points, such as Redwood Park at East 14th Street, Bayview Street, East Park Road, East 11th Street, Diamond Drive, Humboldt State University at Granite Avenue, or at West End Road. Trails in the Sunnybrae Forest Tract of the Arcata Community Forest are also available as an alternative.
The harvest is expected to last through the month of August and may continue into early September, and work will take place Monday through Friday. City Environmental Services staff will be on hand to answer questions from the public while the work is taking place and to maintain public safety. When approaching city staff with questions, forest visitors are advised to wear facial coverings and practice physical distancing.
The Arcata Community Forest is managed with a balanced approach composed of working forest areas, special management areas and ecological reserves. This second-growth redwood forest offers many recreational opportunities for hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians and other nature lovers to enjoy. Timber harvest revenue helps fund forest operations, habitat restoration and management of the forest’s recreational use.

|2020 Bayside Paving Project||The City of Arcata has contracted with Kernen Construction for this project, and work will consist of asphalt paving and the installation of accessible concrete driveways and ramps. The project also includes, but is not limited to, minor roadway excavation, roadway striping, water service upgrades, sewer improvements and drainage improvements.
Construction work will begin on Monday, June 1 on Bayside Road between Union Street and Buttermilk Ln, and additional work on Chester Ave will begin in late June or July.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on some days the contractor may extend work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.. On days of scheduled work, community members are encouraged to follow all safety directions and traffic control devices within the project area.

This project is scheduled to be complete by August 28, 2020, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
|All paving and valve raising has been completed on Bayside Road and road striping is scheduled to begin in early October. Additional road work and paving on Chester Ave and Beverly Dr has begun, Thursday, October 1st.
On days of scheduled work, access to Bayside Rd, Chester Ave and Beverly Dr may be temporarily interrupted or detoured. Additionally, residents may experience extended delays exiting driveways during grinding and paving. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Members of the community are encouraged to take alternate routes during construction and to follow all safety directions and traffic control devices within the project area.
Due to added storm-drain and sewer repairs, weather, and a pause to construction due to air quality concerns, the project is now scheduled to be completed by Friday, October 16, 2020.
