[ARCHIVED] Help Us Record the Upcoming King Tide Events

Looking North to AMIC 12.26.2019 11.33 AM

Rain or shine, the Arcata community will have another opportunity to observe King Tides on Sunday, December 13 through Tuesday, December 15. The highest local king tide is projected for Monday, December 14 at 11:24 AM.

If you are able to observe King Tides safely, the City of Arcata is again asking that the community safely document the impact of King Tides by taking photographs of tide levels.

The City has identified various locations of interest on its “King Tide Guide,” which is available here, but local photographs from all locations are welcome and encouraged. Please note that unlike previous community observations, identification stakes will not be in place.

In addition, we are asking that king tide observers post their photos to the California Coastal Commission’s King Tide story map. Information about King Tides and how to upload photos to the Coastal Commission's map can be found here.

Observers can also email photos directly to kingtide@cityofarcata.org and these images posted to the City’s story map as it is updated.

Please be safe when observing the King Tides! Watch for high water, and take all COVID-19 precautions, including masking and social distancing.
