The City Council has adopted the Mills Act Property Tax Abatement Program to assist owners of historic properties with renovation and maintenance. If you currently own a Designated Landmark in the City of Arcata and are interested in learning more about the Mills Act and how it might benefit you, please contact the Community Development Department at 707-822-5955.
If your property has not yet been designated a Landmark by the City, but you are interested in learning more about the Designated Landmark process and how it can result in property tax savings through the Mills Act, you are welcome to contact the Community Development Department about eligibility. A list of properties that have already been designated as historic can be found under 'Additional Resources' at the bottom of this page.
The Mills Act program is intended to be a long-term property tax savings tool, not a grant or loan program. It is available for residential, multi-family, and commercial properties. You should consult your financial planner to determine if this program is right for you.
