Two camp options for two age groups!

Marsh Explorers Science Camp is a half-day camp, running weekly. Campers may choose to attend the morning session or the afternoon session, but not both within the same week.

Times: 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  OR  1 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Weekly Fees: $115 / $127

Location: Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center, 569 S. G St

There will be staggered drop-off and pick-up times.
Campers investigate nature through experiments, outdoor adventures, individual projects and engaging, hands-on learning! Morning Marsh Explorers Science Campers please be sure to bring a lunch! All campers bring healthy snacks and water everyday!

Marsh Explorers Science Camp Themes 2020

  • Week 1   June 15-19          
    Circle of Life

    Campers investigate connections between plants, animals and insects of the Arcata Marsh system. We also explore how humans interact and impact our environment.
  • Week 2   June 22-26         
    Wetlands, the Biome Arcata Marsh Calls Home

    Dig into wetlands and discover what makes Arcata's coastal marsh special. We'll also spend the week getting to know the aquatic and terrestrial inhabitants of the area.
  • Week 3  June 29 - July 3     
    The Situation with Adaptations

    The marsh is home to many masters of survival, such as shore birds and specialized plants. Join us in learning how living in a coastal marsh is possible.
  • Week 4   July 6-10            
    Birds of a Feather Travel Together

    Campers soar into the world of birds that make seasonal and permanent homes at the Arcata Marsh. Learn about shorebirds, birds of prey and many other species.
  • Week 5   July 13-17           
    Wonderful Wetland Mammals

    From otters to raccoons, to rats and mice, spend the week scurrying around the marsh and learning about these interesting creatures. 
  • Week 6   July 20-24           
    Wonderful Water
    Water plays an important role in our daily lives. Discover the value that water has in balancing the bountiful ecosystem and the benefits provided to the natural world. 
  • Week 7   July 27-31           
    Investigate Invertebrates of the Marsh
    Campers get out your magnifying glasses & take a closer look at the local invertebrates. From micro to macro invertebrates, like insects and crustaceans, we explore these marsh marvels.
  • Week 8   August 3-7          
    Water World

    Campers witness the scientific phenomena present in the Arcata Marsh waters. From the ponds to the bay, there's plenty for campers to explore.
  • Week 9   August 10-14      
    There's a Herpetologist in Everyone
    If reptiles and amphibians are your thing, then this is the camp for you! Campers learn about frogs, salamanders, turtles, snakes and many more slimy and scaly creatures.
  • Week 10   August 17-21      
    Leave No Trace

    To finish the summer, campers discover how humans have impacted the environment and learn good practices for respecting and enjoying the natural world.
