Pavement grindings are being deposited on City property off Foster Avenue for temporary storage. The grindings will be reused on the upcoming Foster Avenue Extension project. Recycling these valuable materials will save the City money. For this reason, the City tries to reuse materials whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Other Road Work:

2011 Concrete and Asphalt Improvements

The City of Arcata has contracted with RAO Construction to install sidewalk and driveways throughout the city to replace failed concrete work and improve ADA access. Work will take place at various locations, weather permitting:

Janes Creek Flood Conveyance and Habitat Improvement WorkReed Canary Grass-Cleared Janes Creek

The California Conservation Corps completed initial reed canary grass removal at Janes Creek to improve habitat for salmon and other fish while improving flood conveyance. The crews weed-eated, mulched and planted along Janes Creek on West End Road, in the Janes Creek Meadows area, and on the Janes Creek reach south of 11th Street east of Villa Way to reestablish the riparian canopy that will eventually shade out and control the grass. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Conservation Corps are assisting the City with funding this project. Private property owners along Janes Creek who would like to participate in the invasive canary grass removal program program should contact the City's Environmental Services Department at (707) 822-8184.
