The Chevret-Vaissade playground was destroyed by a fire on September 3, 2011. There was a tremendous outpouring of support from community members for rebuilding the Chevret-Vaissade Park playground. The City received donations from neighboring residents, businesses and non-profit organizations to pay the $10,000 insurance deductible for the play structure. Donation checks can still be made out to "City of Arcata" and mailed or dropped off at the Arcata City Manager's Office at City Hall, 736 F Street, Arcata, CA 95521. Please write "Chevret-Vaissade Playground Fund" on the memo line of the check.
