Thomas Chapman Sworn In as Arcata's New Police Chief
THOMAS F. CHAPMAN TO BE SWORN IN
AS ARCATA’S NEXT CHIEF OF POLICE
Thomas F. Chapman was sworn in as Arcata’s newest Chief of Police at a special ceremony Friday, March 19, in the Arcata City Council Chamber.
A 15-year veteran of the Arcata Police Department, Chief Chapman’s career with the APD began in 1994 when he was hired as a police officer. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999, to the rank of second-in-command Lieutenant/Captain in 2003, and has been serving as Interim Chief of Police from January 24th of this year to the present.
Chief Chapman has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University and an Associate of Arts degree in Social Science from College of the Redwoods. He has earned Management, Advanced and Supervisory certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, and is a 2008 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
“Tom has a proven track record as an outstanding leader and administrator,” said Arcata City Manager Randy Mendosa in his report to the City Council recommending Chapman’s appointment. “It is a significant advantage for the City when we can promote a Police Chief from within the organization… (Chapman) understands the important law enforcement needs and issues facing our city, as well as the many wonderful and unique aspects that define our community."
