HELP PLAN PARK IMPROVEMENTS AND MORE IN ARCATA

Have a passion for recreation and a good knowledge of Arcata and its many parks? The City of Arcata’s Parks and Recreation Committee would love to have you as a member.

The City depends on volunteer expertise to help plan and administer many different programs. Committee and commission members advise the City Council on a variety of issues, including public recreation and parklands, transportation safety, and road maintenance.

The Parks and Recreation Committee is seeking two members to make recommendations to the Council on acquisition, development and improvement of parklands, recreation areas and regional trails and to help establish user fees and regulations for park and public facilities. This committee meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.

The Transaction and Use Tax Oversight Committee has a new vacancy. This committee makes recommendations to the City Council on how Measure G tax revenue is spent to maintain city roads and run the Arcata Police Department. Meetings are held as needed at the call of the committee chairperson. Knowledge of budgetary and fiscal processes is helpful for serving on this committee.

Transportation Safety Committee members advise the Council and staff on transportation matters. The Committee includes members interested in pedestrian, bicycle, skate boarding and public transit issues. There is one vacancy on this committee which meets once a month on the third Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Recruitment for all of these vacancies will continue until the positions are filled. For more information please contact the Arcata City Manager’s Office at (707) 822-5953. Applications are available at the City Manager’s Office, 736 F Street, Arcata, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online anytime at www.CityofArcata.org/government/committees/vacancies-applications.
