SERVE ON YOUR PLANNING COMMISSION OR HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMITTEE

Both the Arcata Planning Commission and Historic Landmarks Committee have space for one more member. Any Arcata citizen or anyone who lives or works within the Arcata Planning Area is invited to apply for the Planning Commission. It is not necessary for Historic Landmarks Committee members to live or work in Arcata. Arcata’s commissioners and committee members are volunteers serving without pay.

Planning Commissioners attend meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. which are televised live on Suddenlink/Access Humboldt Cable Channel 10 and also webstreamed at www.cityofarcata.org. The seven-member Planning Commission has final decision making authority for most planning and physical development permits in the Arcata area. Anyone applying to build or develop land in Arcata must have their plans reviewed and approved by this Commission.

The Historic Landmarks Committee meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The Committee advises the City Council and staff on preserving Arcata’s heritage of older buildings. Members are knowledgeable about historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, building design and construction, landscaping, or solar siting, green building or energy efficient building design.

For applications, a map of the Arcata Planning Area and a list of City street addresses, go to the City’s website, www.cityofarcata.org/government/commissions/vacancies-applications or http://www.cityofarcata.org/government/committees/vacancies-applications. Applications are also available at the Arcata City Manager’s office, 736 F Street, Arcata, CA 95521. For more information, call (707) 822-5953.
