HSU Natural Resources Club, Track Team clean up Jolly Giant and Janes Creeks
The Humboldt State University Natural Resources club was at it again, this time with help from members of the HSU track team. Together, both groups picked up trash along Jolly Giant and Janes Creeks in Arcata. In all, 26 volunteers picked up 12 cubic yards of trash from various locations including mattresses, vacuum cleaners, pallets, pots, pans and assorted flotsam and jetsam. The key find of the day was a small stack of assorted LPs including 1970s gems by Cher, Dan Fogelberg, the Rolling Stones and the Riders of the Purple Sage.
The next volunteer workday will be on Saturday, November 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. constructing a portion of the Arcata Ridge Trail on the Samuels easement. This trail project will be hosted by the City of Arcata and the Humboldt Trails Council's Volunteer Trail Stewards. The meeting location will be at the Arcata Community Forest Diamond Drive trailhead at the top of Diamond Drive. For more information call (707) 825-2163.
