39 volunteers beat back reed canary grass along Janes Creek

39 volunteers beat back reed canary grass along Janes Creek, Arcata on April 20.

There were 39 volunteers representing Americorps, CCC Fortuna Center, Six Rivers National Forest, Humboldt State University's Natural Resources Club and Arcata High School at the Saturday, April 20, 2013, volunteer workday along Janes Creek in Arcata. In all, volunteers smothered 300 feet of reed canary grass with cardboard and burlap, planted 200 willow sprigs and installed eight willow bundles in an effort to shade out the reed canary grass. Volunteers were served barbecued grass-fed beef burgers by Humboldt Fish Action Council's "Chef Boyar-Doug."
