Have expertise to share and want to be part of your local government? Four different City committees and commissions need volunteers to attend one or two meetings per month and make recommendations to the City staff and Council on everything from energy efficiency policies to preserving Arcata's heritage of older buildings. VOLUNTEER TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY ON A COMMITTEE OR COMMISSION

The Arcata City Council is looking for volunteers from the community to serve on the following Arcata committees and commissions:

Historic and Design Review Commission – One vacancy. Arcata’s Historic and Design Review Commissioners attend two meetings a month on the second and fourth Wednesday at 4 p.m. Meetings are televised live on Suddenlink / Access Humboldt Cable Channel 10 and also webstreamed at www.cityofarcata.org. The five-member Historic and Design Review Commission conducts preliminary reviews of building and site designs for proposed projects in Arcata. They make sure project designs are compatible with standards set in Arcata’s Land Use Code.

Historic Landmarks Committee – One vacancy. Committee members advise the City Council and staff on preserving Arcata’s heritage of older buildings. Members are knowledgeable about historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, building design and construction, landscaping, or solar siting, green building or energy efficient building design. You do not have to be an Arcata resident to apply for this committee. The committee meets once a month on the third Thursday at 6 p.m.

Energy Committee – One vacancy. Energy Committee members study and recommend policies promoting energy efficiency and conversion to greener energy in the community. This committee meets once a month on the third Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Applications for all vacancies will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013. The City Council is tentatively scheduled to interview applicants on Wednesday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m.

VOLUNTEER TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY ON THE ARCATA PLANNING COMMISSION

The Arcata City Council is looking for volunteers from the community to serve on the Arcata Planning Commission. 

Planning Commission – One vacancy. Arcata’s Planning Commissioners attend two meetings a month on the second and fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. Meetings are televised live on Suddenlink / Access Humboldt Cable Channel 10 and also webstreamed at www.cityofarcata.org.

The seven-member Planning Commission has final decision making authority for most planning and physical development permits in the Arcata area. Anyone applying to build or develop land in Arcata must have their plans reviewed and approved by this Commission.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 5. The City Council is tentatively scheduled to interview applicants on Wednesday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m.
