Free Workshop on City of Arcata Public Access Mapping Portal for Citizens, Consultants, Realtors and Map Lovers
Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m.
(Arcata, CA) – Brian Kang, GIS Specialist at the City of Arcata’s Environmental Services Department, gives a free public workshop on new mapping information available from home via the City website on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.
Examples of information now available on the City website’s GIS online mapping system include land use/zoning information; parcel areas; hazard information like earthquake faults, liquefaction and 100-year flood zones; roads; topographical information; aerial imagery; location of parks, open space, sensitive habitat and more. Home buyers, appraisers and engineering and environmental consultants previously had to come to City Hall and use a GIS kiosk or request special mapping services.
Kang will demonstrate step-by-step how citizens can quickly access these and other useful kinds of information from the comfort of their homes or offices.
“As a City, we look for ways to improve access to information,” says Environmental Services Director Mark André. “This enhanced map viewing tool allows an easy way to view the City’s extensive map information library.”
Arcata’s public mapping portal can be accessed at http://gis.cityofarcata.org/pubflexviewer/pubbasemap.html.
