Announcing 2011 Arcata Recreation Summer Camps
Registration Begins May 2, 2011

Parents, this year you can enroll your children into ten weeks of summer fun!  The City of Arcata Recreation Division offers Summer Recreation Camps for youths between 4 and 14 years of age.

Redwood Day Camp (ages 5 to 12) Campers participate in a wide variety of games, art and cooking projects, fieldtrips, swimming (for full day participants) and much more. Redwood Day Camp runs from June 13 through August 19 (no camp on Monday, July 4) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $120 per week for full days or $85 per week for half-days (add $10 per week for non-Arcata residents).  For no additional fee, extended care hours are offered with drop-off as early as 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up until 5:30 p.m. Redwood Day Camp is held at the Redwood Lodge in Arcata Redwood Park.

Pee Wee Sports Camp (ages 4 to 6) Young athletes learn basic hand-eye coordination and skills for a myriad of sports. Pee Wee Sports Camp runs from June 13 to 17, July 5 to 8 (no camp on Monday, July 4), July 18 to 22, and August 15 to 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Pee Wee Sports Camp is held at the Arcata Community Center, 321 Community Park Way.

Young Explorers Science Camp (ages 4 to 6) Young explorers investigate the natural world with fun experiments, individual projects and engaging science learning. Explore, discover and enjoy the “WOW” of science in your own backyard. Young Explorers Science Camp runs from June 20 to 24, July 25 to 29, and August 8 to 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Young Explorers Science Camp is held at the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center, 569 South G Street.

Young Creators Art Camp (ages 4 to 6) Young aspiring artists play games and do fun activities with a focus on art projects, introduction to theater and much more. Young Creators Art Camp runs from June 27 to July 1, July 11 to 15, and August 1 to 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Young Creators Art Camp is held at the Redwood Lounge in Redwood Park.

Marsh Explorers Science Camp (ages 7 to 9) Marsh explorers investigate the natural world with weekly experiments, individual projects and engaging science learning. Explore, discover and enjoy the “WOW” of science in your own backyard. Marsh Explorers Science Camp runs from June 13 to 17, June 27 to July 1, July 11 to 15, and August 1 to 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Art Camp (ages 7 to 14) Artists explore the visual and performing arts while discovering their own style.  Art Camp runs from June 20 to 24, July 5 to 8 (no camp on Monday, July 4), July 18 to 22, July 25 to 29, and August 8 to 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Art Camp is held at the Redwood Lounge in Redwood Park.

Day Camp “Combo” Register for mornings at Redwood Day Camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., then choose from Art, Young Creators Art, Pee Wee Sports, Young Explorers Science or Marsh Explorers Science Camp for the remainder of the day from 1 to 5 p.m. Combo fee per week is $120, $130 for non-Arcata residents.

Skate Camp (ages 7 to 14) Youth of all skill levels learn how to be safe and have fun at our local skate park. Instructed by skilled, local skateboarders, this program focuses on park safety, park etiquette, street and vert riding and, of course, style. Full pads are required to participate. Check in with Ampt Skate Shop (1040 H Street, Arcata, (707) 822-9500) for a 10% discount on skateboarding and safety equipment. Skate Camp runs from June 27 to July 1, July 11 to 15, July 18 to 22, and August 1 to 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The cost is $85 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Skate Camp is held at the Arcata Skate Park on Sunset Avenue.

Natural Resources Science Camp (ages 9 to 12) Every summer this camp features five jam-packed weeks of science experiments, exploration and projects, team building activities, games, field trips, unique access to Humboldt State University faculty and labs and so much more. Natural Resources Science Camp runs from June 20 to 24, June 27 to July 1, July 11 to 15, July 25 to 29, and August 1 to 5 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. The cost is $155 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Natural Resources Science Camp is held in the Natural Resources Building at Humboldt State University.

Adventure Camp (ages 10 to 14) Climb to new heights at the Arcata Ropes Course. Discover how to work as a team to design and build a raft and sail away. Traverse low ropes course elements that test balance and problem solving. Challenge your limits by bouldering at Far North Climbing Gym or climbing a redwood tree. Each week offers new and exciting activities. Adventure Camp runs from June 13 to 17, June 27 to July 1, and July 11 to 15 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. The cost is $90 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Adventure Camp is held in Arcata Redwood Park at the 14th Street entrance.

Combine Redwood Day Camp in the morning with Adventure Camp in the afternoon for $150 per week, $160 for non-residents.

Teen Adventure Guide (ages 14 to 17) Live it up this summer in our new camp designed for adventurous teens. Develop leadership skills by participating in and facilitating activities at the Arcata Ropes Course. Expand your limits by climbing 110 feet into the redwood canopy and rapelling back to earth. Reach new heights and zip through Humboldt skies on a Redwood Park Canopy Tour. Boulder at Far North Climbing Gym. Try your hand at riding and operating a mechanical bull. (Yes, a mechanical bull!) Teen Adventure Guide runs from August 1 to 5, and August 15 to 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The cost is $150 per week (add $10 per week for non-residents). Teen Adventure Guide is held in Redwood Park at the 14th Street entrance. Class size is limited to 12 participants.
