Ceramics: Hanging Bird Feeder, Part 2

Mon., 4/7/14 - 3:30pm  Design and sculpt your own hanging bird feeder from clay! Be inspired by Humboldt's many bird species and the upcoming Godwit Days. Participants will be invited back to the studio on Wednesday, April 2nd to glaze their stoneware pieces. Meet at the Arcata Community Center Teen Room.


Sewing: Pillows designed with Veggie Prints with local artists Joy & Ian

Wed., 4/16/14 - 3:30pm Local designers and seamstresses, Joy & Ian will teach you the basics of using a sewing machine and following a pattern to create a pillow! You can then decorate your creation using potatoes, apples and other objects to make colorful prints and patterns. All supplies provided. No experience necessary.


Clay Workshop: Pots & Planters

Wed., 4/30/14 - 3:30pm Join us at Arts in the Afternoon and make your own plant pot or planter using the wheel, pinch pot or mold method. All supplies provided. No experience necessary. Come back in May to glaze your pot and plant a spider plant before the end of the school year.



Arts in the Afternoon is Back!

Mondays - Thursdays 3:00-5:30pm  All junior high and high school students are welcome to join this after school arts drop-in program. We explore art history, art techniques, conceptual concepts, field trips, community projects and more. New projects happening every day.Registration is required for the semester but feel free to drop-in one afternoon to check it out! More info below.

$20/semester for Arcata residents or $21/semester for non-residents

Arts! Arcata - Scrap Humboldt - April 11th

City Arts students will be displaying a collective paper miniature garden as part of Scrap's "Think Inside the Box" show for April, located at 101 H St. Friday 4/11- 6-9pm and Tuesdays-Saturdays 11am-6pm.

19th Annual  Godwit Days- April 18-20

City Arts students will have handmade ceramic bird feeders on display and will also be submitting art work using photographs taken at the Aracta Marsh and Lazertran techniques to the Godwit Days youth art show, located at the Arcata Community Center.

2014 BeeFest at the Bayside Grange - May 10th

City Arts student artists will be exhibiting a collaborative printmaking project at this year's BeeFest located at the Bayside Grange.

Bayside Park Community Farm & Garden has student created ceramic garden plot markers. Stop by to check them out, buy some veggies and take a walk around the farm! Located at 930 Old Arcta Rd, open daily sunrise to sunset.

Scrap Humboldt Reusable Bag Contest

City Arts students particpated in Scrap Humboldt's Reusable Bag contest. They were awarded the "Extended Life of a T-shirt" award for their upcyled tshirt bag designs as a class and students Naz and Sierra won individual awards for "Best Creative Expression" and "Most Unique Material" for their fabric scrap bags. Congratulations and nice work everyone!



Arts in the Afternoon is an afterschool open art studio for youth in 6th-12th grade. All art materials are provided. One on one instruction and open studio times are available. Teens can explore: 
- Ceramics - Pottery Wheel Throwing - Glazing and Firing - Oil Pastels - Watercolor -Acrylic Painting - Collage - Drawing - Printmaking - Jewlery making -Sculpture - Steet Art - Digital Arts - Photo/Video - And more!

Schedule: Mondays 2:45-5:30; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 3:00-5:30.

COST : $20/semester for Arcata Residents; $21 for non-residents.
