Economic Development

Economic Development is the business of growing and supporting business. The Successor Agency oversees several programs to promote healthy business in the City of Arcata. The primary economic development program is our Business Loan program.  The business loan can be used to expand or develop a business in the City of Arcata.

New Microenterprise Loan Program

The City of Arcata is pleased to announce its new Microenterprise Loan Program, designed for businesses with five or fewer employees that meet certain income criteria.  The maximum loan amount is $50,000; rates range from 3% to 6%, and the term is flexible to meet borrower needs.

To find out if you are eligible for a Microenterprise Loan, use the checklist that you can find HERE.  If you're eligible, complete the Pre-Application form found HERE, and call David Loya at 825-2045 to make an appointment to discuss the loan in more detail.

Business of the Year

The Economic Development Committee accepts nominitions for the City of Arcata's Business of the Year throughout the year.  The award recognizes businesses that exemplify core values of innovation, resourcefulness, business collaboration, and business practices that support our community and protect the environment.

The 2015 Business of the Year will be recognized at the Arcata Chamber of Commerce Membership Dinner on February 21, 2015.  The nomination deadline for 2016 will be announced in the Summer of 2015.
