To help increase the supply of affordable housing, the City of Arcata adopted Inclusionary Zoning. The City of Arcata's Land Use Code requires each new and substantially rehabilitated residential project be designed and constructed to include Inclusionary units to be rented, leased, or sold to very-low, low, or moderate income households.
The City has programs to help buyers purchase below-market rate homes built by private sector developers meeting the City of Arcata's affordability requirements, these homes are available at reduced purchase prices. These below-market rate homes are all privately owned and managed housing developments. Each development maintains its own waiting or interest list and applicants must apply directly through the owner or developer.
