City Roadwork Project Description Project Status

2014 Arcata Bicycle Boulevard Project

 

The scope of the Arcata Bicycle Boulevard Project includes, but is not limited to, installation of bicycle boulevards striping and signs, sidewalk infill, traffic control, minor electrical work, etc. For more information about the project, visit the City's ABB webpage.

The Arcata City Council awarded this contract to the Mercer Fraser Company at its Oct 1, 2014, regular meeting.

As of March 6, the Arcata Bicycle Boulevard is 80 percent complete. Here is a summary of the March 2015 work schedule:

  • All-way stop at 11th & I Streets: Signs will be installed on Wednesday March 11, 2015.
  • Bicycle spoke/hub design for traffic circle at 10th & I Streets: Complete, the cones will be removed by March 15, 2015
  • Conversion of Q Street to one-way southbound between 11th & 10th Streets: Complete,  and striping will be done before March 15, 2015.
  • Swapping of STOP signs at the intersection of 10th and J Streets (removal of existing stop sign on 10th street and installation of new STOP signs on J Street): New signs will be installed on Wednesday March 11, 2015.
  • Swapping of STOP signs at the intersection of 16th and I Streets (Removal of existing stop sign on I Street and installation of new STOP signs on 16th Street): New signs will be installed on Wednesday March 11, 2015.
  • High visibility crossing and pedestrian/bicycle flashing signal at 10th & K Streets: Will be installed before April 10, 2015.
  • Bicycle parking at various locations: Will be installed before March 29, 2015.
  • Bicycle Boulevard signs: ABB signs are installed and striping will be completed by March 29, 2015.

On the scheduled work days, please follow all directions and traffic control devices within the project area.

Current City Construction Projects:

 

City Project Title Project Description Project Status

Foster Ave Extension Project


Project runs from the Alliance Road/Foster Avenue intersection to the Jay Street/Sunset Avenue intersection (site of a future roundabout) approximately 2,000 feet to the northwest. This will be one of Arcata's truck routes and will provide more direct connectivity between Highway 101 and Arcata's northwestern neighborhoods. The project includes a bicycle/pedestrian path parallel to the road's entire length.

GHD won the contract to draft engineering plans at the March 6, 2013 City Council meeting. The construction contract was awarded to Mercer Fraser Company at the March 4, 2015 City Council meeting.

In planning phase.

Work is anticipated to begin around Thursday, April 16, 2015.

Rails with Trail Project

Project runs from north Arcata (Shay Park), through the City to just north of US Hwy. 255. Trail will be constructed along existing streets and rails within City ROW.

The Arcata City Council awarded this contract to McCullough Construction, Inc. at its January 21, 2015 regular meeting.

In Planning Phase

Work is anticipated to begin around Thursday, April 16, 2015.

Rotary Park Reconstruction Project


The Rotary Park renovation includes various concrete and fencing improvements at the park, which is located on South G Street.

Project contract was awarded to RAO Construction at the November 5, 2014 City Council meeting.

Active.

Work is nearing completion as of March 10, 2015.

Low Impact Development
Project
7th and G Street Parking Lot

Various drainage and concrete improvements at 16th and L Streets and at the 7th and G Street parking lot. Work will include the removal of existing asphalt and concrete pavement, placement/construction of concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalk and driveway apron, concrete pavement, permeable pavements, storm drain piping and inlets, street lighting, signage, landscaping, road striping, etc.

Project contract was awarded to RAO Construction at the January 7, 2015 City Council meeting.

Power Pole Replacement on Samoa Boulevard


Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG & E) will be installing new wood power poles and replacing an existing conductor as part of the repair from damage in the 2008 storm. Helicopters will be used for the moving of poles at some point during the project. 

Work is taking place near Samoa Blvd, just east of Highway 101, adjacent to the CHP offices to south and the southern edge of the community park to the north.

 

 

Work has been delayed until next year.
