2015 Asphalt Grindout
& Inlay Project

Large machinery scraping off old street asphalt

GRS General Engineering Contractor will grind out old asphalt and excavate, compact and pave roadways on various Arcata streets on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday August 10 through Friday, August 28, 2015

Traffic will be directed around active construction zones. See the map of road construction areas.

Foster Ave Extension Project

Project involves constructing new roadway running from the Alliance Road/Foster Avenue intersection to the Jay Street/Sunset Avenue intersection (site of a future roundabout) approximately 2,000 feet to the northwest. This will be one of Arcata's truck routes and will provide more direct connectivity between Highway 101 and Arcata's northwestern neighborhoods. The project includes a bicycle/pedestrian path parallel to the road's entire length.

GHD won the contract to draft engineering plans at the March 6, 2013 City Council meeting. The construction contract was awarded to Mercer-Fraser Company at the March 4, 2015 City Council meeting.

2015 CDBG Arcata Bay  Crossings Streetscape Improvement Project


The City of Arcata has awarded a construction contract for 2015 Arcata Bay Crossings Streetscape Improvement Project to RAO Construction. The work consists of, but is not limited to, various drainage and concrete improvements at 3rd and E Streets in Arcata, CA, including removal of existing asphalt and concrete pavement and miscellaneous items/structures, placement/construction of concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalk, and driveway apron, asphalt and concrete pavement, storm drain piping and inlets, trench drain, sidewalk underdrain, pavement markings and striping, landscaping, and other facilities as shown on the plans in the City of Arcata.

Rails with Trails Project

Project involves construction of a Class 1, ADA-accessible, non-motorized, multiuse, paved trail through the city that is completely separated from streets and highways. The trail will run from Shay Park in north Arcata through the City to just north of State Route 255 (Samoa Boulevard), along rails within City rights of way, L Street and Alliance Road.

The Arcata City Council awarded this contract to McCullough Construction, Inc., at its January 21, 2015, regular meeting.

Low Impact Development
Project

7th and G Street Parking Lot

Various drainage and concrete improvements at 16th and L Streets and at the Seventh and G Street parking lot. Work will include the removal of existing asphalt and concrete pavement, placement/construction of concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalk and driveway apron, concrete pavement, permeable pavements, storm drain piping and inlets, street lighting, signage, landscaping, road striping, etc.

The parking lot will remain closed during construction. 

Project contract was awarded to RAO Construction at the January 7, 2015, City Council meeting.

Completed.

Eight spaces along G Street will be closed off until paver vegetation takes hold.

Upper Panorama Tank Replacement Project

Construction of 225,000-gallon, welded steel Water Tank #9 on Upper Panorama Drive. The project includes tank site excavation and grading; installation of tank foundation, tank, piping, security fencing,access facilities and coating system; disinfection of the new tank; demolition, removal and/or salvage of existing wooden water storage tank, and revegetation and restoration of the project construction areas.

The forest access road near the tank site will be closed during construction. A trail is available for public use around the construction site. Expect increased truck traffic on Panorama drive and in the Sunny Brae area en route to the construction site.

The Arcata City Council awarded this construction contract to Resource Development Company at its May 5, 2015, special meeting.

Power Pole Replacement on Samoa Boulevard

Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG & E) will be installing new wood power poles and replacing an existing conductor as part of the repair from damage in the 2008 storm. Helicopters will be used for the moving of poles at some point during the project. 

Work is taking place near Samoa Blvd, just east of Highway 101, adjacent to the CHP offices to south and the southern edge of the community park to the north.
