Current City Roadwork:


Aldergrove Road Water System Upgrade - The City of Arcata and the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District began a water system upgrade project during the week of February 17, 2014 on Aldergrove Road near Ericson Way. Additional work will be performed in July and August both on the road and along the roadside. For more information, please contact Pat Kaspari at (707) 443-8326.

Arcata Marsh Trail Resurfacing Work - Between Monday, July 21 through the beginning of August, the City of Arcata asks citizens visiting the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary to access trails from the South G Street Interpretive Center parking lot at 569 South G Street or from the City corporation yard parking lot at 600 South G Street. Some trails west and east of South I Street will be closed periodically as materials are delivered and work is performed. 2014 Roadway Grind and Inlay - in three locations (10th & I Streets, 12th & I Streets, and I Street from 4th to 5th), the City of Arcata will be grinding out and repaving areas of failed asphalt concrete. Contact the Public Works Dept. for more information at (707) 825-2128.

Please obey all posted traffic control signs and drive cautiously over rough road conditions in the construction zones. Please excuse our dust and debris as we work to improve your streets!

PG & E Hydrostatic Pressure Testing

Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG & E) will be performing a hydrostatic pressure test on a natural gas pipeline in Arcata. This is part of a system-wide program to ensure the safety of the transmission pipelines that deliver gas across the region. Testing will occur from Myrtle Avenue near the Ryan Slough Reg Station in Eureka, to the Arcata Reg Station on the corner of 7th Street and L Street in Arcata.

Sewer Manholes & Mainline Repairs Project

Sanitary sewer collection improvements in Arcata. The work consists of, but is not limited to: installing sixteen sewer manholes and repairing fifteen broken sewer mains in the City of Arcata.  

The Arcata City Council awarded this contract to V & C Construction, Inc. at its August 20th, 2014 regular meeting.

7th & G Street Parking Lot
Low Impact Development
7th and G Street Parking Lot

Low impact development retrofit of this downtown public parking lot to manage rainfall and minimize standing water. Site regrading, permeable pavement, bioswales and native vegetation rain gardens will infiltrate, filter, store, evaporate and detain parking lot runoff.

The Arcata City Council awarded this contract to GHD, Inc. at its April 16, 2014 regular meeting.

Foster Avenue Extension

Foster Avenue Extension Project

Construction of new roadway from the Alliance Road/Foster Avenue intersection to the Jay Street/Sunset Avenue intersection (site of a future roundabout) approximately 2,000 feet to the northwest. This will be one of Arcata's truck routes and will provide more direct connectivity between Highway 101 and Arcata's northwestern neighborhoods. The project includes a bicycle/pedestrian path parallel to the road's entire length. GHD won the contract to draft engineering plans at the March 6, 2013 City Council meeting.

Fickle Hill Road
Improvements Project

Fickle Hill

Installation of radar feedback signs, guard rails, striping, sidewalk infills, traffic control, minor electrical work, stormwater pollution prevention plan, and other related construction operations on parts of Fickle Hill Road.

The City Council awarded this contract to RAO Construction at its June 18, 2014 regular meeting.

Work in progress. 

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Work is expected to continue through the beginning of October, 2014.

Hilfiker Water Main Replacement Project

This project includes the installation of new water mains, valves, hydrant connections, blow-offs and main line connections, on Hilfiker Drive.
