What Should Humboldt Tourism Look Like?

A Woman Tourist Takes a Picture Humboldt County Arcata California Tourism Visitor

Humboldt State University Assistant Professor Ara Pachmayer wants to know how you feel about local tourism. Pachmayer, an Assistant Professor in HSU’s Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration, created a short online survey to measure local residents’ attitudes about tourism and its effects on their community.

Questions range from how tourism stacks up against other local industries like fishing and manufacturing, to whether cannabis tourism will have a positive impact on the lives of local residents. The survey takes between five and ten minutes to complete.

“To my knowledge a survey like this hasn’t been done in Humboldt County before,” says Pachmayer, “So a base of understanding how people feel about tourism could yield some interesting results.” Pachmayer will seek to publish results of her survey in a scholarly journal and a report for Humboldt County communities. Survey statistics could also be used to inform Humboldt County tourism development decisions in the future.

Pachmayer hopes local residents from all around Humboldt County will take her survey, which can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/humcoarcata.
