May is Bike Month

Bicycling is an excellent form of recreation and a great choice for commuting. It reduces climate change, oil dependence, and air and noise pollution. It's also great for your health!

The City of Arcata's goal is to get everyone to make 50% percent of their in-town trips on foot, skateboard, or bicycle by 2020. To achieve this goal, the City has invested in bicycle boulevards, bike lanes and trails, including the new Rails with Trails Class I, multi-use trail connecting Sunset Avenue to Samoa Boulevard.

National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Check out this year's wonderful Bike Month events, meet some cool people, and start peddling!

Take the Humboldt Bike Challenge

This May, the Humboldt Bike Month Coalition is hosting the Humboldt Bike Challenge, part of the PeopleForBikes' National Bike Challenge.

At its simplest, the National Bike Challenge is an easy, online way for you to record the miles you ride and see how you stack up against other riders in Humboldt and all over the country. Ride as an individual, with a work or school team, or join the Bay Trail Challenge Team, whose riders will get pledges per mile, per day, or at a set, maximum amount, to go towards building our biggest multi-modal dream, the Humboldt Bay Trail connecting Arcata and Eureka.
